Two More Men Sign in the 1700s--The Answer

  1. Neither one. The black mark after their name is their mark, signifying they singed it that way because they were illiterate.

    1. The black mark after each name is more likely the seal that was done after the signing. The handwriting of each of these man is not the same as the handwriting of the scribe/clerk who wrote this document so it doesn't appear that the clerk wrote these names and had the men make their mark.
